Training

Going all in

When did you make the leap and ditch primarly weight training or ditched it entirely? What made you do it? Did you ever get fomo or miss weight training? I've been gyming for a while, long time lurker as well. Always done things like pullups or some dips but weight training made up the bulk of my training. I've been on the fence for a while and half just want to dive head first into calisthenics/bodyweight training, try something a bit different. Been really loving rings lately and exploring all the different skills that are possible. But its like theres a voice in the back of my head thats stopping me from commiting, telling me I still need barbells and weights and I'll lack something that barbell dont. Idk. I know its probably just my own biases and theres nothing lacking obviously, but have you ever dealt with this or gotten over it?

Does it have to be one or the other?

It doesnt, but just had this itch to commit more to bodyweight stuff. Most programs or advice Ive seen is to just go all in you know what I mean? Do you combine them?

Look into hybrid training. If you’re looking at calisthenics programs then that’s what you’re getting.

What's your goal? Fitness isn't as neat and clean as the internet would have you believe, as if barbells give you X and kettlebell give you Y and calisthenics gives you Z... You become a stronger version of yourself in all of them

Read the Recommended Routine of this subreddit. It recommends adding weight to your pull-ups & dips. It also recommends barbell for squats and deadlifts. Weighted calisthenics is where it's at for me. No need to quit the gym.

There most definitely will be things that are lacking. There's pros and cons to both styles of training, which ones you want to accept are up to you to decide.

You could still use weights for your legs if you want. A whole lot of people do hybrid approaches or weighted calisthenics You don't have to "lock in" to some pure idea of a training regimen at all, just give it a shot and see if you like it (or not)

Atm I have less time to train then before so I the goal is to just. The reason I also was drawn to bodyweight was the ease of setting it up and being able to do it anywhere and thought that would save me some time or open up at least the ability to fit it in when work and life is so busy atm

That is very true. I guess youre right its just a matter of starting with something
